How often have we read, or in fact, written on behalf of clients, about the need to “make wellness part of your lifestyle”, or “place yourself at the top of your priority list”? But what does that actually mean?
Finding the time for self-care and wellness can be challenging, especially when we’re busy with work and life’s many, many responsibilities that pop up (often unexpectedly!).
In an interview recently with SABC News, Dr Sharon Munyaka from The Society for Industrial and Organisational Psychology South Africa, said, “- If you think about how the economy is performing, people are under more pressure than they have been in recent years. Look at load shedding, trying to drop the kids off at school, assigning the schedule if you work from home and even the risk of losing your job. This is adding stress.”
For us in the creative industry, we know that taking care of ourselves is vital to our ability to perform at our best, both personally and professionally. It means taking a mental break from work and giving ourselves time to rest, both physically and mentally. It’s about finding balance in our lives and making sure we’re taking care of ourselves, so we can be at our best for our clients.
As Arianna Huffington, CEO and Founder of Thrive Global, says, “When we take breaks to reset and recharge, we are able to connect more authentically, work more productively and perform at our best.”
And so, at Logico, we were delighted, on 28 April 2023, to have introduced our very first Logico Wellness Day, a day dedicated to taking a break from our busy lives and focusing on our mental, physical, and emotional well-being. We weren’t just talking the talk, we were practising what we were preaching!
So, what did we get up to? One of the crew was away trekking in Nepal (who authorised her an entire Wellness month?!?!?!) and between the adventure, couldn’t resist visiting a client’s store in India to get a feel for the brand, and come back inspired. Others took the opportunity to catch up on life’s admin errands, while some hid from their kids to get quiet time and catch up on their favourite shows (we won’t mention who!). Some of us had a pamper session at the nail salon, slept in and got some time on the couch to catch up on TV series.
The truth is… life gets busy and if we have the opportunity to have one day to do what we want to do, without feeling guilty – then yes, we are in!
Whether it’s taking a walk outside, reading a book, or simply spending time with loved ones, taking some time out should always be a priority in their lives.
